KAREN DEWS FIGHTS HER WAY TO BRONZE AT THE WORLDS!! WELL DONE KAREN!!!

Many thought Karen had finally achieved what she set out to do............win the WAKO world Championships, this time held in Coimbra Portugal Nov/Dec 07, however a points decision again stopped her from going into the final. The GB camp were sure the performance of a lifetime was enough but at the end of the fight it was not to be. She returned home with a creditable Bronze medal of which we are all very proud of her for.

Look's like they all better watch out next year as Karen has vowed to do it 100% next time without question!

WAKO GB British Championships 2008. Internet report!

Hot off the press as usual is the WAKO GB full contact news! All other discipline heads are urged to supply a news report as soon as possible!

Well it has got to be said that we have some big thanks to hand out before we even enter into this report. WAKO GB has just experienced the biggest ever turn out in its history to the Ring Sports section of its annual British Championships. This was due to the massive support of each an every person who attended on the day, whether they be a competitor, spectator or official and certainly not forgetting the Medical staff and our regular ring Installer “Ard working Andy”. Lucy Edwards always gets a good mention of us as she is the main event

co-ordinator and allows the organising staff to be well informed

on entrants and all other aspects in the running of the day.

The success of this massive two day event has already prompted

new discussions on how we can move forward even more and allow

the competition to carry on growing in both its size and future success.

Next year will see a second ring in use if required.

The day was and will now remain a pre pay pre enter competition, which

helped considerably in time cutting in the registration of the 100 plus

competitors to the ring. With this in hand, the head of Full Contact for

Great Britain for the Amateurs and Professionals alike,

Master Cris Janson-Piers decided to have the strongest show of qualified

officials ever. WAKO Pro GB also supplied referees and judges to help with

this massive task even though it was a purely amateur event.

What was so rewarding was that the willingness of fighters and coaches, belonging to so many different clubs and organisations all gathering together under one roof to compete against the best. We are so pleased to say that in the ring no one camp really dominated, it was purely a competition of so many high class fighters that nothing was a foregone conclusion. Talented athletes from all over England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales were also in attendance, further showing the quality and high level of competitor from so far a field of which this type of event attracts.

The results that followed will have a massive effect on the WAKO British Amateur rankings, next year it will have also definitely seen some of the top competitors either fighting for Great Britain at World Level or maybe even some of the real elite fighters making a transition to the World of professional kickboxing. All winners are invited to trial for the WAKO International championships automatically and many other top performers will also be asked to trial. The rankings are available for viewing on the WAKO GB site and will be updated as soon as physically possible.

It would be so hard to single out so many people out but the officials were asked to recommend their 3 fighters of the day and we have tried our best to involve the ones who were mentioned on several occasions.

being doing in such a concentrated way this last year.

Master Cris Janson-Piers said “I now intend to work so hard at

developing top Amateur and Professional Kickboxing squads alike, made up of the people who want to be seen to be representing their country at the highest level through the World Governing Body for Kickboxing. I feel as though today was a real success but merely another chapter in our plight for excellence, I welcome each and every one of you to the TEAM! Thank you to you all for making todays competition the success it was”

WAKO GB is proud to be asscociated with such dedicated sportspersons and their coaches alike.
