Welsh Open 08 massive success!!
The very first Wako Welsh open was held on Sunday 18th May 2008 at the Newport Centre in Wales and was hosted by Mr Nick Clarke and Mr Clifton Brown. The event covered all WAKO disciplines from Musical forms to Full Contact in the ring. It was nice to see so many WAKO Oficials there making sure the event run as smooth and professionally as possible.
The standards were very high as per usual with any WAKO event and there was some great new talent on display. Many newly qualified aofficials were also in attendance testing out their newly attained qualifications and skills!
With Gand champion categories with cash prizes it just made the day more interesting and the palce was a light as the finals drew near.
The full results listings will appear on this web site as soon as WAKO Wales submit them so please call back!
The weapons and forms section provided great entertainment as always and hopefully allowed cometitors to showcase their skills in order to impress team selectors for the up and coming International Championships at the end of the year!
Action packed....... Sharp speeed and agility on the points mats..........power and ring craft inside the ropes.............light continuous showing skill and control, there was something for everyone at the 1st WAKO Welsh open. What agreat day and excellent display of martial arts skills. Well done to everyone who took part and also everyone who made the day what it was!
Ryan "The Hammer" Hamer had to settle for a demonstration bout as he was to be defending his WAKO Pro title at the end of the days event in a special WAKO Pro addition to the Welsh Open. His fighter informed him that he hadn't made the weight just the very evening before the show!! A matter now being looked into by WAKO Pro. This was no reflection on WAKO Wales themselves of course! Hamer is used to no shows and people evading him and although terribly dissapointed it came as no suprise!
A young keen "Ben" stepped into the ring and said I just cant wait for the experience, at least I can say I have been in the ring with the best!"
Hamer approached this fight with professionalism, skill and control, fighting to Bens best ability, allowing him shots at times then covering up and letting him come in while Hamer turned inside work back round on Ben.
This could have only helped Ben in his future plight in the ring and we all wish him the best in his kickboxing career.
Ben received a massive round of applause as he stepped where many a man dare not!!!!
